Google Maps Local Business & Review Intelligence

Discover local businesses, collect customer reviews directly from your browser, analyze review velocity, and export verified local leads with The Stack’s Google Maps Explorer.

Why Local Business & Review Intelligence Matters

For teams selling to brick-and-mortar businesses, hospitality groups, clinics, franchises, or local service providers, traditional B2B databases fall short. Local businesses rarely maintain detailed LinkedIn company pages, yet their entire customer reputation, operating status, contact information, and growth trajectory live on Google Maps.

With The Stack’s Google Maps Explorer and Chrome Extension, you can collect live places and customer reviews directly from any geographic area, analyze sentiment and velocity, and export targeted lead lists.

1. Interactive Map & Spatial Viewport Filtering

Open the Google Maps Explorer to browse collected businesses on an interactive map:

  • Rating-Colored Pins: Every place is plotted with a color-coded rating pin—green (≥ 4.5 ★), orange (3.8 – 4.4 ★), or red (< 3.8 ★)—so you can spot top-performing venues or struggling businesses needing reputation management at a glance.
  • Live Viewport Filtering: Panning or zooming the map automatically updates the visible pin count and recalculates the top-level KPIs (Total Places, Average Rating, and Total Reviews), alongside quick filters for Category and Min Rating.
  • Search This Area: Use the floating search bar directly inside the map to collect new businesses in your current map viewport (e.g. Restaurants, Gyms, Dental Clinics, Hotels). Select how deep to collect (3 pages, 10 pages, or All pages) and click Search—the Chrome extension gathers the matching places and plots them on the map automatically.

2. Scrape Any Place or Review Feed by URL

When you want to monitor a specific business, competitor location, or client venue, click Scrape by URL:

  1. Paste any full Google Maps place link (https://www.google.com/maps/place/...) or shortened share link (https://maps.app.goo.gl/...).
  2. Choose how many pages of reviews to collect (3 pages, 10 pages, or All pages).
  3. Click Start Scraping.

The Stack automatically resolves shortened URLs, collects the customer reviews through your browser extension, and enriches the place record with its latest rating, total review count, category, address, phone number, website, and photos.

3. Review Velocity, Rating Distribution & Place Details

Below the map, the analytics workspace turns local review activity into actionable signals:

  • Rating Distribution: View the star-rating breakdown across businesses in your selected area or category.
  • Monthly Review Velocity: Track the historical trajectory of customer review volume month by month to identify rapidly growing local brands or venues experiencing a slowdown.
  • Top Rated Places: Quickly jump to the highest-rated businesses with verified customer reviews.
  • Place Detail Drawer: Click any map pin or leaderboard row to open its detail drawer. Inspect its Contact & Online Presence (website, phone, email, and address), read individual customer reviews with reviewer details, refresh place metadata from Google, or click Sync Reviews to pull the latest reviews on demand.

4. Filter and Export in the Places & Reviews Data Table

Click Open Data Table from the map header (or click Table view inside any place drawer) to open the Google Maps Places & Reviews Data Table:

  • Spatial & Place Context Carryover: Opening the table from the map preserves your current geographic bounding box (Area Filter) or specific venue (Place Filter), which you can clear with one click to search the entire database.
  • Granular Filters:
    • Search (q): Full-text search across review text, reviewer name, place name, and business category.
    • Review Rating: Segment reviews by star tier (5 ★ Only, 4.0 - 5.0 ★, 3.0 - 4.0 ★, or < 3.0 ★ to surface unhappy customers and pain points).
    • Contact Filters: Restrict results to businesses With Phone? or With Website?.
  • CSV Export: Export your filtered places and reviews—including review text, star rating, reviewer name, review date, business name, category, city, country, Google Maps URL, website, phone number, and full address—directly to CSV.
